Fiberstar has introduced Citri‑Fi Pro, a new citrus‑fiber ingredient positioned as a natural, sustainable alternative to acacia gum in beverage applications.
The launch addresses a long‑standing challenge for formulators who rely on acacia gum (gum arabic) to stabilise emulsions but face mounting supply‑chain, ethical, and cost pressures linked to sourcing from conflict‑affected regions.
Acacia gum has been a staple in beverage emulsification for decades, yet geopolitical instability in Sudan – one of the world’s primary production hubs – has raised concerns about humanitarian impacts and the reliability of supply. These pressures have intensified the industry’s search for a viable replacement. Fiberstar says Citri‑Fi Pro arrives at a critical moment, offering manufacturers a clean‑label, responsibly sourced option derived from upcycled citrus fibre from the juicing industry.
According to the company, Citri‑Fi Pro can replace up to 75% of acacia gum or modified food starch in beverage emulsions while delivering cost‑in‑use savings and a more stable supply chain. The ingredient is allergen‑free, gluten‑free, and designed to support brands seeking to strengthen sustainability credentials and reduce exposure to sourcing risks.
John Haen, president and CEO of Fiberstar, said the launch responds directly to urgent market demand. “This new acacia gum alternative, Citri‑Fi Pro, comes at a time when beverage makers are desperately seeking a substitute,” he noted, emphasising the industry’s need for both functional performance and ethical sourcing assurances.
Citri‑Fi Pro is expected to appeal to beverage developers working across categories such as flavoured waters, juices, energy drinks, and functional beverages – segments where clean‑label expectations and supply‑chain resilience are increasingly shaping formulation strategies.
