ChicP launches UK’s first functional hummus range

Demand for health‑led innovation accelerates.

British hummus brand ChicP has unveiled the UK’s first fully functional hummus range, targeting gut health, fibre intake and plant diversity as the dip category continues to premiumise and shift toward health‑driven innovation.

The launch positions ChicP as the only functional premium hummus brand currently on the market, offering food and drink producers a clear signal that consumer expectations for everyday staples are evolving rapidly.

A new proposition for a growing category

ChicP identified a gap in the market for hummus that not only delivers on flavour but also provides measurable health benefits. The new range uses aquafaba – the nutrient‑rich water from cooked chickpeas – in place of water, increasing fibre and protein content while reducing waste. The recipes also use extra virgin olive oil rather than rapeseed oil, further elevating nutritional value.

The result is a collection designed to support gut health, meet rising demand for plant‑based functionality, and help retailers expand the role of hummus beyond snacking into meal enhancement and everyday nutrition.

The range is now available through Ocado, Whole Foods, Planet Organic, Midcounties Co‑op, Booths, Abel & Cole, Selfridges and independent retailers nationwide.

“Healthier eating without compromising flavour”

Founder Hannah McCollum said the new range reflects a shift in how consumers want to use hummus.

“We created this functional range to enable consumers to choose healthier eating habits without compromising on flavour or convenience. We’ve pushed the boundaries, offering targeted benefits for gut health support and increased plant diversity, redefining how hummus fits into a truly balanced and delicious lifestyle.”

Five functional SKUs designed for gut health and flavour

ChicP’s new line‑up includes five variants, each formulated with specific nutritional benefits:

  • Velvet Good Gut Hummus – enriched with Aquamin, a seaweed‑derived calcium source that supports digestive enzyme function and may have a prebiotic‑like effect on gut bacteria. Offers 4 Plant Points.
  • Velvet Green Queen Hummus – a Green‑Goddess style blend with peas, spinach, parsley and basil, delivering 6 Plant Points, high fibre and antioxidant support.
  • Velvet Beetroot & Horseradish Hummus – bold, earthy‑sweet flavour with a warming kick, offering 6 Plant Points, high fibre and a source of protein.
  • Velvet Hummus: High in Fibre – a Great Taste Award winner known for its creamy texture and standout flavour.
  • Indulgent Velvet Truffle Hummus – created with The Truffle Hunter, offering deep savoury notes and 4 Plant Points.

A category‑building opportunity

ChicP’s move into functional dips reflects broader trends shaping the food and drink sector: rising interest in gut health, increased focus on plant diversity, and consumer appetite for products that deliver both indulgence and nutritional value.

As a B Corp and founding member of Buy Women Built, ChicP positions the range as a premium, clean‑label option that can help retailers grow the chilled dips category through added functionality and expanded usage occasions – from salads and bowls to pasta, roasted vegetables and centre‑of‑plate dishes.

The new range retails at £2.50 RRP for 150g pots, with the Truffle variant priced at £2.75.
